SOA Development
Our Services > Planning Your Legacy for The London Olympic Games and Paralympics Games

Text Box:

Many organisations have recognised that the London Olympic
Games have the potential to bring great benefits to the UK.
Many are now planning how they can make a full contribution to
making the Games a success and also how they can secure the
best legacy for their area or client group.

soa development have a very strong team, who have
always provided us with professional and tailored
services, meeting our significant aims and objectives as
we asked.  We now have good foundations to take us past 2012 with confidence.  I would recommend them to anyone thinking about their Olympic legacies.
Ron Crank, Acting Head of Economic and Environmental Policy Service, West Sussex County Council

Securing the benefits will be mainly down to your own efforts, collaborating with other organisations and partners. The greatest benefits will be secured by those who put in the greatest effort.

Looking at the legacy plans that have been developed so far, there are a number of common themes:

  • Work with young people – on sport related activity, but also involving the wider Olympic values

  • Volunteering

  • Employment and skills

  • Opportunities for business

  • Health and healthy living

  • Community involvement and social inclusion

  • Disabled sport and physical activity for disabled people

  • Cultural, arts and heritage

  • Sustainability

We have worked with organisations to help them develop their legacy plans. This can include:

  • Consultations with stakeholders, communities and businesses

  • Development and facilitation  of partnerships and working groups

  • Presentations and public meetings

  • Working up legacy strategies and action plans

  • Project management

  • Bid development

  • Information and newsletters

"I initially engaged Peter to help with our newsletter due to his background as a journalist...the articles are far more interesting and readable than I had imagined.  However, when we progressed to an e-newsletter Peter was a magnificent support and managed to get us through a difficult time"
Christine Double, Partnership Director, PRO-ACTIVE South London

Our clients for legacy planning include:

  • South London Partnership

  • West London Partnership

  • West Sussex County Council

  • Business Link Kent

You can see a case study of our work with South London Partnership here.

On 6 July we were in Trafalgar Square to hear the result.  To us, it had become clear in the preceding week that the London case was getting stronger, as the support for Paris was waning. Nevertheless, we were as nervous as anybody as the President of the IOC fumbled with the envelope – and just as overjoyed at the outcome.

PLEASE NOTE before you begin any legacy planning you must be familiar with the branding guidelines that have been published by the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG). There are phrases, words, emblems and images that you must not use. You can get a copy of the guidelines from the LOCOG website – london2012.com
